<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU4-8O7QlV7aNCM5kunVHU49ad02OY2TqeUCHXYSS0Kdx7Gi1TCzPP_mLA6SHcJNrKqzYhFBNK7fD0iGmpZkk0GnKaeCtxsvF88lt3rpZAyYtn3Mtbk8pbQn6td7O2jMZnoy3WVHZiBns/s1600/IMG_6225-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU4-8O7QlV7aNCM5kunVHU49ad02OY2TqeUCHXYSS0Kdx7Gi1TCzPP_mLA6SHcJNrKqzYhFBNK7fD0iGmpZkk0GnKaeCtxsvF88lt3rpZAyYtn3Mtbk8pbQn6td7O2jMZnoy3WVHZiBns/s640/IMG_6225-001.JPG" width="488" /></a></div>
<br />
Before I tell you about the campaign to raise awareness about Animal Abuse, I should fill you in on what's going on, since I've been gone so long! First of all, Mom found an awesome FUREVER FAMILY for Cricket! They really are perfect for her: they live near the river and WALK to it, almost every day, to go fishing. Cricket gets to go along and SWIM! How awesome is that? Plus, there's the sweetest, little girl who just loves Cricket and loves to give her hugs and kiss her on her nose and Cricket just MELTS! She closes her eyes and leans into the little girl and they just LOVE each other!<br />
<br />
It's a good thing too because Mom was her usually blubbery self when Cricket left with her new family! I've never seen a human cry so much as my Mom when she places one of our rescues with it's Furever People! I guess it's because she loves us all so much that it's hard for her to say good-bye! I have to admit, I'm sure glad that she won't have to say good-bye to ME!<br />
<br />

<br />
About that raising awareness thing... There's a group of animal lovers on <a href="http://www.facebook.com/PurpleforAnimals" style="color: yellow;" target="_blank"><u><b>FACEBOOK</b></u></a> that have started a campaign to raise awareness about Animal Abuse (Mom says "and the ridiculously insignificant penalties that those who commit it receive!"). They are encouraging EVERYONE to <u><i><b>t</b></i></u><i><b>ake a stand against animal cruelty</b></i>. To show your support, all you have to do is <b style="color: magenta;">GO PURPLE!</b> If you're on FaceBook, you could change your 'avitar' to something purple and make any pictures that you post next week purple! If you need help changing things to purple, this <a href="http://www.picmonkey.com/#" style="background-color: #274e13; color: yellow;" target="_blank"><u><b>LINK WILL SHOW YOU HOW.</b></u></a><br />

I know a lot of you guys have addressed the topic too. Reading Hawk's blog this morning gave me an idea. I talked it over with the Girls (Bella & Sable) and they agree that it would be worth trying...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFezzoNFIytkgSu07GcSqhFrkH6GGpz545oIB8fZP8Z7e2j2i52QOEL-OP1HQhdwFQaaRa3DW1EUWrjlsLF3P7zluVD-hJbqfip-P576xfDyJc1nceBJN8WgNAHKy5cJFWd7RxtdHCSxA/s1600/IMG_4853-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="382" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFezzoNFIytkgSu07GcSqhFrkH6GGpz545oIB8fZP8Z7e2j2i52QOEL-OP1HQhdwFQaaRa3DW1EUWrjlsLF3P7zluVD-hJbqfip-P576xfDyJc1nceBJN8WgNAHKy5cJFWd7RxtdHCSxA/s640/IMG_4853-001.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
What if we ALL got together and <i><b>on the SAME DAY</b></i> posted about BSL? Every dog blog (and even our non dog friends!) we can connect with do a post about how unfair and ineffective BSL really is. We could call it the <span style="font-size: large;"><u><i><b>"Ban the Bans"</b></i></u></span> movement. What do you think? I bet if we got some of the "BIG DOGS" like <b style="color: yellow;"><a href="http://snoopysdogblog.com/" style="color: yellow;" target="_blank">Snoopy</a> </b>and the <a href="http://twolittlecavaliers.com/" target="_blank"><b style="color: yellow;">Cavaliers</b></a> behind us and getting the word out, we could get an effective movement going! Maybe a <a href="http://www.lifewithdogs.tv/category/pet-blogger-hop/" target="_blank"><b style="color: yellow;">Saturday Blog Hop</b></a> with the theme "Ban the Bans"? We could pick a date far enough out to give us time to get the word out and get as many bloggers as possible involved. It wouldn't have to be just Dog bloggers either! The more blogs posting about Banning the Bans on BtB day, the better! Anyone and everyone with a blog would be welcome to join. For those who don't have blogs, but support the cause, they could feature it on their Facebook pages or Twitter or any other social media. We could ask everyone to change their Facebook avatar to a picture of a sweet Pitty on Ban the Ban day. If we all put our heads together, we'll think of lots of ways to make a BIG NOISE!<br />
<br />

<br />
What do you guys think? Would you be willing to get on board and make some noise? I'd welcome your comments and suggestions concerning this idea. Talk it over with your friends and let's see if we can get enough dogs and their people on board to really make our voices heard!<br />

Pitties are such great dogs and get such a bad rap that we want to try to dispell some of the myths with something that elected officials and the media sometimes forget to consider: the <u><b>FACTS!</b></u><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,Geneva;"><b>The <a href="http://atts.org/" target="_blank"><u style="color: yellow;">American Temperament Test Society</u></a>, Inc. (ATTS) is a national
not-for-profit organization (registered in the state of Missouri) for
the promotion of uniform temperament evaluation of purebred and
spayed/neutered mixed-breed dogs.</b></span><br />
<br />
ATTS was established to:<br />
<ul>
<li>Provide for a <b>uniform, <u>national</u> program of temperament testing</b> of purebred and spayed/neutered mixed-breed dogs.</li>
<li>Conduct seminars to disseminate information to dog owners, dog
breeders and evaluators (testers) concerning dog psychology, motivation,
reaction and other aspects of temperament testing.</li>
<li>Recognize and award certificates to dogs that pass the requirements of the temperament evaluation.</li>
<li>Work for the betterment of all breeds of dogs.</li>
<li>Select, train, prepare and register temperament evaluators.</li>
</ul>
Our motto says it all:<b> “A SOUND MIND IN A SOUND BODY”</b><br />
<br />
<b style="font-weight: normal;">What is temperament?</b>
W. Handel, German Police Dog Trainer, in his article, “The Psychological Basis of Temperament Testing,”<i> defines temperament as:“the sum total of all inborn and acquired physical and
mental traits and talents which determines, forms and regulates behavior
in the environment”</i><br />
<br />
The ATTS test focuses on and measures different aspects of
temperament such as stability, shyness, aggressiveness, and friendliness
as well as the dog’s instinct for protectiveness towards its handler
and/or self-preservation in the face of a threat. The test is designed
for the betterment of all breeds of dogs and takes into consideration
each breed’s inherent tendencies.<br />
<br />
The test simulates a casual walk through the park or
neighborhood where everyday life situations are encountered. During
this walk, the dog experiences visual, auditory and tactile stimuli.
Neutral, friendly and threatening situations are encountered, calling
into play the dog’s ability to distinguish between non-threatening
situations and those calling for watchful and protective reactions.<br />
<br />
<b>About Canine Temperament</b><br />
Because of breed-specific dog legislation and negative
publicity associated with many breeds of dogs, temperament testing has
assumed an important role for today’s dog fancier. The ATTS Temperament
Test provides breeders a means for evaluating temperament and gives
pet owners insight into their dog’s behavior. It can have an impact on
breeding programs and in educating owners about their dog’s behavioral
strengths and weaknesses as well as providing a positive influence on
dog legislation.<br />
<br />

<br />
The above information was taken off the website of the American Temperament Test Society. The list of breeds tested is not complete ~ there are many other breeds recorded. I selected some of the more well known breeds. <b>Breeds marked with double asterisks (**) are commonly referred to as the "bully breeds" or Pit Bull mixes as they either have or look as if they have bull dog breeding in them. </b> These are some of the breeds most commonly discriminated against with <b>B</b>reed <b>S</b>elective <b>L</b>egislation. As you can see, in almost every case, <b>the bully breeds are no more likely ~ and often MUCH <u><i>LESS</i></u><i> </i>LIKELY to become aggressive than most of the other popular pet breeds. </b><br />
<b><br /></b><br />
<b>So, why do Pit Bulls and other "Bully Breeds" have such a bad reputation?</b><b> </b><br />
Pit Bulls are a very intelligent, loyal breed of dog that also happens to be very powerful. Because of their size and strength and the fact that they so desperately want to please their owners, Pit bulls fall prey to unsavory owners who want to use them for dog fighting or guard dogs in isolated (often illegal) locations and drug rings. These dogs are frequently abused horrendously and/or neglected to the point of starvation. Some are taught to fight in order to survive. If they won't fight (a not-uncommon problem), they are either killed, starved to death or used as "bait dogs" to fuel the blood lust of dogs that have learned to kill or be killed.<b> </b><br />
<br />
<b></b><br />
By far, the vast majority of Pit Bulls are loving, goofy, eager to please canine companions. They are no more likely ~ in fact often LESS LIKELY to bite than most other breeds of dogs.<b> </b>Keep in mind, for many years, it was the norm for many American families to have a Pit Bull or Pit-mix that grew up with and was the constant companion of the children. Long before they became notorious because of the things that evil owners forced them to do, Pit Bulls were known as <b style="color: yellow;">America's "Nanny Dog". </b><br />

Nobody thought twice about entrusting their children with their loyal, loving Pit Bull. <br />
<br />
But when newspapers and television started shouting out stories of savage dog fight rings and pictures of Pit Bulls, decked out in spiked colors and with blood lust in their eyes. When dog fighting became a big money business for not only low-life scoundrels, but big name stars like Michael Vick, the dark side of how all that power could be used came into view. <br />
<br />
The Nanny Dog is now vilified by a media that always wants a demon dog
breed to frighten people and LHASA-APSO BITES MAN just doesn’t sell
papers. Before pit bulls it was Rottweilers, before Rottweilers it was
Dobermans, and before them German Shepherds. Each breed in it’s order
were deemed too vicious and unpredictable to be around people. Each
time people wanted laws to ban them. It is breathtakingly ironic that
the spotlight has turned on the breed once the symbol of our country and
our national babysitter. (photos and this paragraph from Yonah Ward Grossman -<b style="color: yellow;"> <a href="http://www.ywgrossman.com/photoblog/?p=676" style="color: yellow;" target="_blank">"FOR OVER ONE HUNDRED YEARS AMERICANS KNEW PIT BULLS FOR WHAT THEY DID BEST. BABYSITTING. PART I."</a></b>)<br />

Part 2 of Mr. Grossman's series can be found <a href="http://www.ywgrossman.com/photoblog/?p=1103" target="_blank"><u style="color: yellow;"><b>HERE</b></u></a><br />
Part 3 can be found <a href="http://www.ywgrossman.com/newblog/?p=1013" target="_blank"><u style="color: yellow;"><b>HERE</b></u></a><br />
<br />
Banning Pit Bulls is not the answer to preventing dog bites/attacks. Neither is dramatizing every single incident in which a Pit Bull is violent. That only feeds the paranoia. When is the last time you read about a "Sheltie" attacking someone's child? The fact is a Sheltie is MUCH more likely to bite than a Pit Bull. One just doesn't read about it in the paper. Enforcing strong regulations regarding the care, housing, licensing and supervision of ALL breeds is the way to reduce canine conflicts.Ban chaining of dogs. Any dog chained 24/7 can become unstable and aggressive. Dogs are pack animals. They NEED exercise, socialization and companionship. Stopping abuse, neglect, isolation and cracking down on anyone involved in dog fighting is the <u><b>ONLY</b></u> way to keep our communities safe AND give us back America's Nanny...<br />
<br />
There's a lot more information that supports the FACT that it's not Pit Bulls that are the problem ~ any more than it's the match's problem if it is used to start a fire! It is when the wrong people get their hands on ANY breed of dog and abuse, neglect and misuse it that problems arise. Don't ban the breed ~ Ban the DEED! <br />

<i><b>By Charlie Warner</b></i><br />
<i><b>Argus Editor</b></i><br />
Spurred on by an attack of a pit bull that resulted in the death of
another dog and injuries to its owner, the Caledonia City Council spent
considerable time discussing the creation of a dangerous and vicious
animal ordinance last week.<br />
According to Caledonia Police Chief Kurt Zehnder, Helen Olson was
walking her miniature pinscher along the 800 block of East Grove Street
on May 8 around 1 p.m. when a pit bull attacked the small dog, mauled it
and ultimately killed it. Olson sustained injuries to her hand as she
attempted to pull the pit bull from her dog. Her injuries required
medical attention.<br />
The pit bull was taken into custody by City Animal Control Officer
Mike Gavin and observed for 10 days. The dog had all its shots. But it
was discovered the dog had a micro chip identifying the animal as a
potentially dangerous dog. The micro chip was placed in the dog, per
state statute, following an attack that occurred when the dog was not
living in Caledonia.<br />
The dog has been put down.<br />
“We need to put our foot down on this issue,” Zehnder told the
council. “I was there. I saw what happened. It was horrendous. What
happened to that small dog made me sick. We were so fortunate that a
child wasn’t involved. We could have had a fatality.”<br />
Gavin told the council that the only breed of dog he has had issues with are pit bulls and half-breed pit bulls.<br />
“I believe the background and the breeding of this type of dog makes
them quite vicious. This is one breed of dog I really don’t think we
want in our community,” Gavin said. “What happened on Grove Street is
indescribable.”<br />
Zehnder said there are other cities that do not allow pit bulls. He
cited Minneapolis as one major municipality that has zero tolerance for
pit bulls. He added that pit bulls are illegal in the state of Colorado.<br />
“People have had many bad experiences with pit bulls,” Zehnder said. “That’s why they have zero tolerances in many places.”<br />
City Clerk/Administrator Jennifer Feely said City Attorney Tim Murphy
recommended that a separate ordinance dealing with vicious dogs be
prepared and approved by the council.<br />
It was pointed out that pit bulls currently in Caledonia will be
grandfathered in. But, like all dogs, they must be licensed, which will
help Gavin and the local police department keep better track of them.
But no new pit bulls or half-breeds will be allowed within the city
limits.<br />
The topic will be revisited at the June 11 council meeting and the new ordinance possibly approved.</blockquote>
While we feel very badly for the poor lady who was hurt and lost her beloved pet Min-Pin, to hold an entire breed and even mixed breeds that MIGHT, <u>possibly</u> contain some pit bull responsible is not an effective way to deal with the issue of loose and or viscous dogs. What good will it benefit the citizens of Caledonia to keep friendly, gentle pit bulls that are family pets out of their city but ignore the fact that<b> it takes responsible owners and enforcement of current rules regarding dogs running lose and 'dangerous' dogs to keep the community safe. </b> NOT the banning of one particular breed! There are LOTS of wonderful, sweet, loving pit bulls out there, that would no sooner bite than fly ~ just as there are lots of poodles, collies, cocker spanials, labs, etc., etc., etc., that could attack if not raised, trained, handled and supervised correctly!<br />
<br />
Why is it that humans don't write newspaper headlines when a poodle or pug bites someone? My Mom knows someone who saw a Golden Retriever attack a beagle and seriously injure it. Fortunately, the Golden's owner was able to pull his dog (who was on a leash!) away from the beagle before it was killed. Of course, there was no write up in the local newspaper about that. Should Golden Retrievers be banned?<br />
<br />
I don't understand why cities don't just make the PEOPLE who have dogs <b>take good care of them</b>. Dogs need to be trained, loved, properly housed, socialized and supervised. If the city council passed a law saying THAT, there really would be a lot less unfortunate incidents. If the dog in Caledonia had been shut in a fenced in yard, that lady's Min-pin would be alive today. In fact, the dog that attacked had already been deemed "dangerous" due to a previous incident! And it was running LOOSE? Where was it's owner? Had the dog received any professional training to rehabilitate it after it's first offense? I doubt it.<br />
<br />
But it's not the owner of the pit bull who was "put down". It was the dog. And maybe that was the right thing to do. But it's too bad that the pit bull really didn't have a chance since it didn't have a responsible owner to prevent something like the tragic attack on an innocent dog and it's master, from happening in the first place. I wonder what happened in the life of that pit bull that prompted it to be so aggressive. In spite of what some people may say, most pit bulls were NOT bred to be aggressive. They were bred to be loyal, devoted family dogs and were in fact often called <a href="http://www.ywgrossman.com/photoblog/?p=676" target="_blank"><b style="color: yellow;">"America's Nanny Dog",</b></a> because they are so good with children! Please read the article that link goes to. It tells the TRUTH about the history behind Pit Bulls in America.<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><i><b>The dog did not attack because it was a pit bull.</b></i></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><i><b>It attacked because it was untrained and unsupervised! </b></i></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: large;">Please don't blame a whole breed (in fact a whole BUNCH of breeds ~ there is no ONE breed that is designated as a Pit Bull! <u>Many</u> breeds can and are often referred to as "Pits") for the actions of others that were not properly trained or supervised. </span><i><b><br /></b></i></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9xUSAFM_GQ2Xmonx6_bfWGPx_Qju6kpMz1zKNTPQVRb_CreyTpw0tM-TFTYpO6U3kDDb8TgLGcYDGDA-864ON_KpTQe7unViIY26-aARrbTwcVgXHFLFyudAeLFB427lu74FLLAhtWHM/s1600/SORRY+MY+PITBULL....jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9xUSAFM_GQ2Xmonx6_bfWGPx_Qju6kpMz1zKNTPQVRb_CreyTpw0tM-TFTYpO6U3kDDb8TgLGcYDGDA-864ON_KpTQe7unViIY26-aARrbTwcVgXHFLFyudAeLFB427lu74FLLAhtWHM/s640/SORRY+MY+PITBULL....jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<br />
EDUCATION is the key to preventing tragedies like what happened to that little Min-pin from happening. EDUCATION is the key to preventing dog bites in general. ANY breed of dog can and will bite. Let's make something good come out of this tragic situation. We can't bring that precious Min Pin back but maybe, just maybe, with proper enforcement of existing laws regarding housing and confinement of ALL breeds of dogs, and the proper supervision and LEASH LAWS for ALL breeds of dogs and the proper follow up training and monitoring of ANY dog (and it's owner!) that bites, Caledonia can be a safer place to live for both it's human and canine residents.<br />
<br />
* BSL does NOT work.<br />
* It is expensive and IMPOSSIBLE to enforce.<br />
<br />
How many innocent dogs will die because the Caledonia Animal Control Officer doesn't like Pit Bulls? He is the person who told the City Council: “I believe the background and the breeding of this type of dog makes
them quite vicious. This is one breed of dog I really don’t think we
want in our community"<br />
<br />
<b>Dogs are not BORN viscous.</b><br />
<b><u>PEOPLE</u> make dogs viscous!</b><br />
<br />
Enforce the laws that are already in place. <br />
Create harsher penelties for those involved in dog-fighting and dog abuse.<br />
<br />
Maybe THEN, we'll all have a safer place to live...<br />
<br />

Does anyone out there know who we are supposed to contact to register a complaint against our humans??? I have been <u><i><b>so</b></i></u> mistreated, neglected and emotionally abused, I may never recover from the horror of it all!<br />

<br />
This morning, Mom got out this <b style="color: yellow;"><a href="http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=9052" target="_blank">fancy, schmancy collar/leash thing</a></b> that she bought for Cricket and put it on her. Cricket wasn't too sure if she liked the strap around her nose but Mom kept giving her little pieces of HOT DOGS and she didn't really complain much at all. Of course, I got right in there and got my fair share of HOT DOGS too ~ I wasn't going to let Cricket get them all, just because she had to wear that fancy, schmancy collar thing. But <b><i>then....</i></b><br />
<br />
Mom and the bag of HOT DOGS and Cricket went for a <u><b>WALK</b></u>.<b><i> </i></b>With <b>OUT</b> <u>ME!</u> I couldn't believe it. I think that I may still be in shock. Can you beLIEVE that? If that's not abuse, I don't know what IS.<br />
<br />
Actually, I do know what is worse. Worse abuse is finding out that not only did they go for a walk (with the hot dogs) but Cricket actually got to go down by the creek and go SWIMMING! Any time that Bella and Sable and I sneak down to the creek to go swimming Mom gets MAD at us. But was she mad at Cricket? <i><b>NO WAY! </b></i><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia8-H6Edx_34OSqVUmYRX3Vs0UqrgWlY5OQ5pXNSPCFpNgQtcJGjW6pppQQSXkGoZJ4PSMnOn3altiOdV_jOGNJCwrT56jIpu-fv0ZoN6_Vdu41yXb9eMt_67QshX7n6GnKc0umclPuNk/s1600/IMG_6710-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="410" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia8-H6Edx_34OSqVUmYRX3Vs0UqrgWlY5OQ5pXNSPCFpNgQtcJGjW6pppQQSXkGoZJ4PSMnOn3altiOdV_jOGNJCwrT56jIpu-fv0ZoN6_Vdu41yXb9eMt_67QshX7n6GnKc0umclPuNk/s640/IMG_6710-001.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Not only was Mom not MAD at Cricket...she even took PICTURES of her playing in the water! In fact, she even made a <b style="color: yellow;"><a href="http://youtu.be/45W8etsf5mg" target="_blank">VIDEO!</a></b> Talk about abuse!<br />
<br />

I've been here MUCH longer than Cricket and I <u><i>NEVER</i></u> got to go swimming! GRRRRrrrrrrr!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgU7oyDBJL7qt_ZCf3TNlyCGMviILJHVHDqfCSGoYheJMecuZQvd9fGY3YLZAwPVSwj8O0kyb3mv2uSFy5zQJS7fVcAWya52xJLSLxFrFzdtuZ7Tu2wWWosoZsFJxlyLecq_cGPjsmGmxE/s1600/IMG_6742-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="362" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgU7oyDBJL7qt_ZCf3TNlyCGMviILJHVHDqfCSGoYheJMecuZQvd9fGY3YLZAwPVSwj8O0kyb3mv2uSFy5zQJS7fVcAWya52xJLSLxFrFzdtuZ7Tu2wWWosoZsFJxlyLecq_cGPjsmGmxE/s640/IMG_6742-001.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I guess the "good" news is, Mom said that the reason she only took Cricket today was because she was trying out that fancy, schmancy collar ~ to see how it worked. I guess it can feel kind of weird and some dogs don't like it at first because they can't pull when they wear it. Mom decided not to take more than one dog today in case Cricket got scared and crazy or something. But she didn't . <br />
<br />

<br />
I am SO honored that Scout and the rest of the pack over at <a href="http://dogsnpawz.com/" target="_blank"><u><b>Dogs N Pawz</b></u></a> chose me for this award. Thank you guys!!! Scout even shared some information about this pawsome award in case you don't know what it means:<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“Liebster” means “beloved”, “dearest”, or “favorite” in German. The
origin of the Liebster Blog award is somewhat unclear but there’s a
general consensus that the award originated in Germany. The award
recognizes bloggers with fewer than 200 followers.</blockquote>
I don't mean to be "bragging" about getting an award that means that I'm <i>beloved</i>, <u>dearest</u> or <b>favorite</b>, I'm just excited!<br />
<br />
The rules are:<br />
<ul>
<li>Thank your Liebster Blog Award presenter(s) on your blog.</li>
<li>Link back to the blogger(s) who awarded you.</li>
<li>Give your top 5 picks for the award in a post with the copy of the rules.</li>
<li>Inform your top 5 by leaving a comment on their blog.</li>
<li>Post the award on your blog.</li>
</ul>

And the Award goes to:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://spottyspottypolkadotty.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"><u><b>"Spotty, Spotty, Polkadotty" </b></u></a><br />
I just discovered this blog today and it seems like a fun place to visit. I thought it might be fun to add a brand new (to me, anyway) blog to the list. It's about a really cool (BEAUTIFUL!) Blue Healer mix that was adopted from a rescue...<br />
<br />
<a href="http://romp-roll-rockies.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"><u><b>Romping and Rolling in the Rockies</b></u></a><br />
Now, I know that this blog has more than 200 followers, but it is such a beautiful blog ~ with tons of incredible photos ~ and so simply, yet poignantly written. Dear KB is sharing the sad journey of her beloved "K" (chocolate lab) who is in the late stages of osteosarcoma. They could use all the positive thoughts and prayers that dog lovers across the world can send!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://lifeatgoldenpines.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"><u><b>Life at Golden Pines</b></u></a><br />
Is one of my all time favorites. Kim shares tales of her life with a pack of rescued, Senior, Golden Retrievers as well as a rambunctious wheten Scottish <strike>Terror</strike> - I mean TERRIER <br />
She's got like a Ka-zillion followers but I like her too much not to nominate her!<br />
<a href="http://www.blogger.com/goog_1721090977"><u><b></b></u></a><br />
<a href="http://sagechronicles.wordpress.com/" target="_blank"><u><b>The (mis)Adventures of Sage</b></u></a><br />
Don't tell <a href="http://www.baileybegood.com/home/" target="_blank">"Bailey"</a> but I've kind of got a crush on Sage...<br />
Stop by and tell her I say "Hi"!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://jazzis-world.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"><u><b>Jazzi's World </b></u></a><br />
Another one of those Scottish <strike>Terrors</strike> - <i>I MEAN TERRIERS!</i><br />
Be sure to say "Hi" to Jazzi for me...<i> </i><br />
<br />
Mom asked me to share this video of Cricket playing in the hose. She is SO CRAZY when mom gets the hose out to water plants....<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><b>FOR EVER!!!</b></i></div>

Boy, today is going to be a hard one.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Mom's cleaning like a crazy lady because she's going to 'show' the house to some people who are interested in buying it, this afternoon.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz_bFvnVBgBYm3kpilJbDtzkQN5M70STd9APV1lKkSxHdVtKN2_FEgTUONPl0z1A5Zru3NIaiCfJgEajD3RzlLRdUpDjwkwc0s4LyI-yMi_K9CxNNTmzmxGzmvFyAD_DB311MgEj6pgyc/s1600/IMG_2118-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="330" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz_bFvnVBgBYm3kpilJbDtzkQN5M70STd9APV1lKkSxHdVtKN2_FEgTUONPl0z1A5Zru3NIaiCfJgEajD3RzlLRdUpDjwkwc0s4LyI-yMi_K9CxNNTmzmxGzmvFyAD_DB311MgEj6pgyc/s640/IMG_2118-1.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Plus she has to take Cricket and Gypsy "into town" to visit with the family that Cricket met a few weeks ago.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAr6V0WYMEVgzRB_fj53tJW5mJHYq0M63ZCu2qEzxZHM4l9r1XDTBa7XmZ-QwRb0tdZkV1XeKTNBQTOdf7RSsfM-8ZcclR4czmXRTKOQm-AVoTFQOhzXcHWNR3iYnbiozayf5dIvOQZm8/s1600/IMG_5685-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAr6V0WYMEVgzRB_fj53tJW5mJHYq0M63ZCu2qEzxZHM4l9r1XDTBa7XmZ-QwRb0tdZkV1XeKTNBQTOdf7RSsfM-8ZcclR4czmXRTKOQm-AVoTFQOhzXcHWNR3iYnbiozayf5dIvOQZm8/s640/IMG_5685-001.JPG" width="360" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
They really liked Cricket and are interested in adopting her but Mom thinks that Gypsy might be a better match for them.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4XdwML4TwuWL0wCBUKAvMmi_Dsu5kc7BG2760qm76Yus70arP-ml16qcNX4oi2dlsQmUtdPp9UNaZOXZvUry39VIQQTuJTlBSkUMTh-_GDefClkCNcKy_zuNi3ipImyTeu4n2gHYjgHg/s1600/IMG_6100-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4XdwML4TwuWL0wCBUKAvMmi_Dsu5kc7BG2760qm76Yus70arP-ml16qcNX4oi2dlsQmUtdPp9UNaZOXZvUry39VIQQTuJTlBSkUMTh-_GDefClkCNcKy_zuNi3ipImyTeu4n2gHYjgHg/s400/IMG_6100-001.JPG" width="366" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
We'll see how it goes when they can compare how each of the dogs interact with the kids.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The only bad thing about doing that today is that Mom won't be able to get all the work done, that she <i>wants</i> to get done, before she shows the house, cuz it takes a couple of hours to drive 'to town' and back. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The <i><b>hardest</b></i> thing for all of us today is going to be <u>saying goodbye to JD!</u></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLJJ34d7Qek4fPnBtHACnnFWKTNgcGTXwzGn3-9CPot3Nf8VWmGRFkvaPmWRkjwf-dXpneFmRYF2XviYJaSbi1uIrW-4Q4gyIGK2JrBq0LxyWp80p3It1YIt8twMYEVFhvMq97mLixxFI/s1600/IMG_6483-003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="586" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLJJ34d7Qek4fPnBtHACnnFWKTNgcGTXwzGn3-9CPot3Nf8VWmGRFkvaPmWRkjwf-dXpneFmRYF2XviYJaSbi1uIrW-4Q4gyIGK2JrBq0LxyWp80p3It1YIt8twMYEVFhvMq97mLixxFI/s640/IMG_6483-003.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
JD's <u><i>Forever Family</i></u> is coming to get him, after the other people come to look at the house this afternoon.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We're going to miss JD <u><i><b>SO</b></i></u> much!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
He's been my best buddy ever since <a href="http://shepherdsvoice.blogspot.com/2012/03/sigh.html" target="_blank"><u><b>Cisco left!</b></u></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But Mom is really proud that JD is going to a <i><b>mostest wonderfullest family!</b></i> He'll get to go running every morning and camping practically every weekend and they're gonna take him with them EVERYWHERE they go! Of course, Jessica is going to spoil JD rotten and is very excited about bringing her <b>New, Bestest Friend </b>home!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqbXihKGPjN5T_oYIXDKZblqX5mqwD9rmrDv7gC87cqLeN9AGDkTWbo8Gs6KXbisWapnzlrZGTA7sGCclsxnASyNaEhS4LsVIWziDGcSOIx3EioGC8AE0NWHIy8hyPPxwWkB11cVZ8aBg/s1600/IMG_6485-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="301" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqbXihKGPjN5T_oYIXDKZblqX5mqwD9rmrDv7gC87cqLeN9AGDkTWbo8Gs6KXbisWapnzlrZGTA7sGCclsxnASyNaEhS4LsVIWziDGcSOIx3EioGC8AE0NWHIy8hyPPxwWkB11cVZ8aBg/s400/IMG_6485-001.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Mom says they don't live too far away from us so I can go along when she goes to <strike>check up on</strike> I mean to <u><i>VISIT</i></u> JD in a couple of weeks!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Even if we do get to go visit him and he isn't far away,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
we're still gonna miss the BIG GOOF!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDHZHPyvtqjgm6cwd0FUjz00Hebbz4XPzfryhukAkx0n81Dj_h-RCRDVJWtS37tNmfred3FT2km8U09X4gLTuVSUI679SnoROpSf4BKIH8b7l11ql_Yp-PIBvZvRKPDhfIkIuIOX57Tkk/s1600/IMG_5786-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="538" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDHZHPyvtqjgm6cwd0FUjz00Hebbz4XPzfryhukAkx0n81Dj_h-RCRDVJWtS37tNmfred3FT2km8U09X4gLTuVSUI679SnoROpSf4BKIH8b7l11ql_Yp-PIBvZvRKPDhfIkIuIOX57Tkk/s640/IMG_5786-001.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I don't have to wish you Good Luck, JD, because I <b>know </b>that you are going to be incredibly happy and SO loved. So I'll just say: "Have Fun" and wish you and your Forever Family <i><b>many</b></i> happy years together!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
That, and that it's a darn good thing that I've got Gypsy to play with now!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Plus, Mom says that JD's adoption fee will pay for Gypsy to get spayed. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
What ever <i>that </i>means...<br />
<br />
XOXO<br />

<br />
Hero here. With something serious to talk about. I don't know if you know it or not, but my Mom likes to save dogs that don't have homes and/or are facing being put to sleep (which is something people say to make themselves feel better about KILLING A HOMELESS DOG!) in "shelters". I was homeless once. It's lonely. I missed having someone that talked to me and petted me and FED me! I was one of the lucky ones. My Mom rescued me before I even got turned in to a 'shelter'. Don't get me wrong ~ some shelters are GOOD places. They take care of dogs that are lost or their owners can't take care of them anymore. But so many shelters end up over crowded, with no room for more dogs. Yet, more dogs keep coming in! The only thing that those shelters can think to do is to kill some of the dogs that have been there a while, to make room for the new ones ~ hoping that someone will adopt them. It's SO sad to think of perfectly nice, loving dogs who want nothing more than to LOVE someone and have someone LOVE them back, end up dying because there's no room...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>That's what would have happened to Gypsy!</b></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsXZnvOnhgsAgmBg2g3NkMTZFdezWlAPbEE_XEZPSKvfc5AFL9BoWC3fDboRsw6tnqAYjQZ_Q8D8bdmVViY-H25yj-RgWb4tTrGYjWm3q_FiaQBXJdLyS3p-ypYfhWmR7NdN1JdfItwB8/s1600/IMG_6181-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="514" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsXZnvOnhgsAgmBg2g3NkMTZFdezWlAPbEE_XEZPSKvfc5AFL9BoWC3fDboRsw6tnqAYjQZ_Q8D8bdmVViY-H25yj-RgWb4tTrGYjWm3q_FiaQBXJdLyS3p-ypYfhWmR7NdN1JdfItwB8/s640/IMG_6181-001.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
But that's where my Mom steps in! When Mom hears about a sweet dog that's going to be killed because there's no room at the shelter, she "rescues" it! Nice people help the lucky dog get to our house and my Mom takes them to the Vet to make sure that they get all their shots and tests and spayed or neutered. The spayed or neutered part is <u><i><b>EXTRA</b></i></u> important, to make sure that there aren't even MORE pups born that end up homeless and alone or in shelters! <br />
<br />
Do you remember how sad and scared <a href="http://caninecomments.blogspot.com/2012/04/outnumbered-again.html" target="_blank"><u style="color: yellow;"><b>CRICKET</b></u></a> first looked when Mom saw her in the shelter?<br />

<br />
Isn't it amazing what a little LOVE can do for a dog? Who would have guessed what a beautiful, HAPPY dog Cricket would turn out to be? I'm sure glad that Mom saved her!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVUwWgoa0CQR0J8SPA6-UYuR815IqxLu-DJUXgLM3MsR45xB6mNUvbJAarMnpxJLfwsuBTF04wTds9Ghkulu5NIu3BUyHc6y0PsX9e1kNKkBTOlRkzcow-StuaqpaPgyTfcwVRtqpf4lE/s1600/IMG_6392-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVUwWgoa0CQR0J8SPA6-UYuR815IqxLu-DJUXgLM3MsR45xB6mNUvbJAarMnpxJLfwsuBTF04wTds9Ghkulu5NIu3BUyHc6y0PsX9e1kNKkBTOlRkzcow-StuaqpaPgyTfcwVRtqpf4lE/s640/IMG_6392-001.JPG" width="627" /></a></div>
<br />
But, HERE'S THE THING: It costs <u><i><b>lots</b></i></u> of money for Mom to rescue these dogs. Of COURSE they are worth it! Every penny! The problem is, Mom doesn't have lots of money. Before I came to live with her, my Mom got hurt, <u><i><b>BAD</b></i></u>. Then she got <u>real</u> sick. Now she can't work. Which us dogs kind of like because it means that she's home with us ALL THE TIME! ;-) The problem is, it makes it hard for Mom to feed us all. And there's NO money for Vet bills. I told Mom we could just not go to the Vet! She didn't think that was such a good idea. 'Specially for the new dogs. ..<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKM3cR9nHnDePN-UpHHR6lM7YMRiSS_zQi7isbRU6bilAjCI6nDLSbAd0z9Yn0VKcwPt8A57phfnVshyZRB9Vdo4bBn27_6opYcsbTSkzxc_ZFk47fKpo2a-IklZ7-XM8W_y1pTdVO-z0/s1600/IMG_6423-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="462" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKM3cR9nHnDePN-UpHHR6lM7YMRiSS_zQi7isbRU6bilAjCI6nDLSbAd0z9Yn0VKcwPt8A57phfnVshyZRB9Vdo4bBn27_6opYcsbTSkzxc_ZFk47fKpo2a-IklZ7-XM8W_y1pTdVO-z0/s640/IMG_6423-001.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
So, Mom's started something called a "ChipIn". It's a way for nice people, who love dogs and want to help save more homeless pups can help Mom help more dogs! People just "ChipIn" and Mom gets money to help pay the vet bills or buy food (or new TOYS!!! Cricket chews them all up!) Right now, we're hoping Mom will buy us a swimming pool for the summer. That would be awesome! Anyway, if YOU would like to help ~ or you want your PERSON to help, go ahead and click on the ChipIn box and make a donation.<br />
<br />
<br />
<center></center><center><object height="250" width="250"><param name="movie" value="http://widget.chipin.com/widget/id/2b50249c792a51ff">
</param>
<param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always">

<param name="wmode" value="transparent">

Mom says that ANY amount will help so don't feel bad if you can't give a lot. Then again, if you CAN give a lot ~ that would be <i>PAW</i>some!!! ;-) Just think: if you and all of <i><b>YOUR FRIENDS</b></i> can talk their people into donating some money, Mom will be able to save and take good care of lots more dogs ~ and find them their Forever Homes so that they are happy and loved like US! Maybe you would be willing to give up your treats for a week? Or give a nice TOY to a dog who has never had a toy to play with? I told Mom that us dogs were the answer to her prayers ~ Just like she is the answer to the prayers for many homeless dogs...<br />

Thanks for pitchin in and if we get that swimming pool, you're all invited to the POOL PARTY!!!<br />
<br />
(P.S. Mom said that I should tell you that we're hoping for one of those 'cheapy, kids, plastic pools' ~ not some built-in, underground pool or anything. I think a built-in, underground pool would be GREAT!)<br />

<a href="http://aspca.org/news/federal-bills-seek-to-protect-military-dogs-and-racehorses" target="_blank"><u><b> A message from the ASPCA</b></u></a></h3>
<br />
Today (May 19) is "Armed Forces Day". A day to recognize those who selflessly serve our Country. Let's not forget some very important members of the armed forces who lay their lives on the line right next to the men and women of our military or sometimes, INSTEAD of risking the lives of our brave men and women. <br />
<h3>
<b></b>
</h3>
<br />
<br />
<img alt="German Shepherd" height="250" src="http://aspca.org/news/%7E/media/Files/news/images-545x250/german_shepherd_outside_545x250.ashx" width="545" /><br />
<br />
Our pets play very special roles in our lives, and their importance
to us is reflected in our nation’s anti-cruelty laws and other measures
enacted for the good of companion animals. But because their roles are
so different, working animals (like service dogs) often are not afforded the same
protections as pets. At the ASPCA, we are always working to close this
gap.<br />
You can help by urging your Congress members to cosponsor and pass
the following federal bill that would extend critical protections to
military dogs <br />
<h3>
<b><a href="http://www.aspca.org/militarydogs">Canine Members of the Armed Forces Act</a></b></h3>
<div style="margin-left: 2em;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-left: 2em;">
<b>Purpose:</b> To classify
military working dogs as "canine members of the armed forces" instead of
"equipment," establish adoption policies for retired dogs, create a
non-profit entity to raise funds for retired dogs' veterinary care, and
to establish a formal means to honor dogs killed in action or who show
exceptional courage in the line of duty.</div>
<div style="margin-left: 2em;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-left: 2em;">
<b>Why Now?</b> Saturday, May 19 is Armed Forces Day, and Memorial Day is fast approaching—what better time to recognize <i>all</i> those who selflessly serve our country?</div>
<br />
<br />
<b>U.S. S. 2134—Canine Members of the Armed Forces Act</b><br />
<br />
Sponsor: Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT)<br />
ASPCA Position: Support<br />
Action Needed: <b> Call and email your U.S. senators in Washington, D.C</b>., and urge them to cosponsor the Canine Members of the Armed Forces Act.
Military working dogs<br />
<br />
(MWDs) help keep us safe and perform important tasks that can be difficult, if not impossible, for humans. Unfortunately, they are currently classified as <b>“equipment”</b> by the U.S. Department of Defense. This classification not only trivializes these animals’ contributions, it also makes it difficult to transport dogs serving in foreign lands back to the United States for adoption once they’re ready for civilian life. Additionally, retired MWDs often require expensive veterinary care for health issues related to their service.
While the ASPCA recognizes the value of incorporating animals in the military, we believe military animals should be treated humanely every step of the way—from training right through retirement. Our government’s commitment to these heroic animals’ well-being must extend beyond the period of military service.
In order to better recognize their contributions, <b>the Canine Members of the Armed Forces Act will reclassify MWDs as</b> <b>“canine members of the armed forces” </b>(instead of “equipment”) and will institute programs to assure their health and well-being after retirement from service—all without using federal funds.<br />
<br />
What You Can Do.
The House of Representatives is moving forward with this provision, and now we need the Senate to act as well. Please take two quick actions today:<br />
<br />
1) Use the email below to contact your two U.S. senators and urge them to cosponsor the Canine Members of the Armed Forces Act. Please customize your message in the space provided.<br />
<br />
2) Follow up with brief phone calls to your senators in Washington, D.C. Tell them that you are their constituent and ask that they cosponsor S. 2134, the Canine Members of the Armed Forces Act. <b><a href="http://capwiz.com/aspca/dbq/officials/" target="_blank">Find your senators’ names and phone numbers here.</a></b><br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
<i><b>On behalf of our nation’s military working dogs, thank you!</b></i></h3>
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
<i><b>And to all of the Brave Men & Women AND Canines who sacrifice so much to protect our freedom we THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! </b></i></h3>

Yesterday, Mom and JD left for hours. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
They didn't tell us where they were going but Mom seemed pretty excited. JD of course was just happy to be going, anywhere, with Mom. All by himself no-less! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhytLaN7luTdAhq0ChC70xe1KH-o_G-J9JiyJal3uQdDujZf6kJWK1nYEcXOUSupMY6k6f_2v266jTi5bdlj-JH3R_0nk5xgb0_E-iQGTtYSwfWz3uCrFJfXuP3VXuldAxGkRRoOzmSY-A/s1600/IMG_6061-002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="614" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhytLaN7luTdAhq0ChC70xe1KH-o_G-J9JiyJal3uQdDujZf6kJWK1nYEcXOUSupMY6k6f_2v266jTi5bdlj-JH3R_0nk5xgb0_E-iQGTtYSwfWz3uCrFJfXuP3VXuldAxGkRRoOzmSY-A/s640/IMG_6061-002.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm still not sure where they went ~ someplace called a "SPA".</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
All I know is when they came home, JD was all shiny clean and smelled all purdy. He even had a little BOW on his collar! Don't worry, I helped him get rid of that thing...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Bella and Sable and I were all anxious to hear all about where they went and what happened and JD was happy to tell us all about his day. Cricket was just happy that Mom was home.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>*click on any picture to biggify it *</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihorI7oeoW4mjWk0C8El3gRUWkFKalzfFK4S23gUmQhD_Jn7vi70ebdg9f3CMKVbLLYcLfOnD_tFnrgROOpixKTXmac3_Eq_EOozap97GBjNgxBkDsHpGl82f5JVdVBCmK3seWzdhL_E4/s1600/IMG_6089-002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="332" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihorI7oeoW4mjWk0C8El3gRUWkFKalzfFK4S23gUmQhD_Jn7vi70ebdg9f3CMKVbLLYcLfOnD_tFnrgROOpixKTXmac3_Eq_EOozap97GBjNgxBkDsHpGl82f5JVdVBCmK3seWzdhL_E4/s400/IMG_6089-002.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It turns out that Julia Crawford, of <a href="http://www.pawshpetservices.com/" target="_blank"><u><b>"PAWSH PETS"</b></u></a>, in Caledonia, MN. invited any of Mom's rescue dogs to come to her SPA and get "the Royal Treatment" ~ for FREE! That way they look and smell all clean and bright and it might help them find their own 'Furever Homes".</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
JD said the first thing Julia did was give him a Manicure</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2KlkG04du-dLc9zHk5ze3fqYK3Xo3DqJ9Mof2oeuYz1TT2MqiJdT3OTLqXKWos3vDAYgRHusJKUZS4JIWsAZgV0WvWuexxbAbI59q8rpjHAhoBMakFhchTQsQ6oFBPUjeDlubRGIiD1c/s1600/IMG_6066-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2KlkG04du-dLc9zHk5ze3fqYK3Xo3DqJ9Mof2oeuYz1TT2MqiJdT3OTLqXKWos3vDAYgRHusJKUZS4JIWsAZgV0WvWuexxbAbI59q8rpjHAhoBMakFhchTQsQ6oFBPUjeDlubRGIiD1c/s400/IMG_6066-001.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then a PEDICURE!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(Mom REALLY wants one of these herself!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjf0pddBbz-iqsEq1AK5ofiFFxjn1gCU3jtJYjXA6tDPiP23q3RX8DH7hgC1OKsPOLj1cBUGRaCTiNQi0Wpl-Lsh4Xb8gia6CXcAwN0TkcVDNI_rn2j2tKGAqP76byE3Hb7iVUrc4-Yhyc/s1600/IMG_6065-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="397" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjf0pddBbz-iqsEq1AK5ofiFFxjn1gCU3jtJYjXA6tDPiP23q3RX8DH7hgC1OKsPOLj1cBUGRaCTiNQi0Wpl-Lsh4Xb8gia6CXcAwN0TkcVDNI_rn2j2tKGAqP76byE3Hb7iVUrc4-Yhyc/s400/IMG_6065-001.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I don't know ~ it doesn't look like so much fun to ME!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But then JD got a BATH! Actually, it was more like a shower.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghihzM3MituMtfqTymyEYad8sHSNQeBUlsw8O-D-ndXSN_rqRPWXsaAo_IZvogz8_YEa4cOEot0XVpY35sCffUp8pL3wgFcRqXPuIMtwuyC5cF07Ulb_mSYuJ-D2JqsaekASaWw5sNfo8/s1600/IMG_6068-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="311" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghihzM3MituMtfqTymyEYad8sHSNQeBUlsw8O-D-ndXSN_rqRPWXsaAo_IZvogz8_YEa4cOEot0XVpY35sCffUp8pL3wgFcRqXPuIMtwuyC5cF07Ulb_mSYuJ-D2JqsaekASaWw5sNfo8/s400/IMG_6068-001.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Heck, Julia even cleaned his EARS and teeth and freshened his BREATH! I've been meaning to talk to Mom about that.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
;-)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When he was all done, Julia rubbed some 'conditioner' into his coat (it makes him all soft and silky) and sprayed him with some smelly stuff that Mom REALLY loves! In fact, now she thinks the rest of us need a SPA day so that we all smell as good as JD. I'm not so sure ~ he smells mighty "clean". I kind of prefer a more rugged, out-doorsy scent!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Ta-Daaaaaa!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The New JD</div>

BOY!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Does Cricket ever like to play in the water.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGNdq7u4UyMGRoH28Jsw2rtbT2VKgf5uze6c3tLf4lafpu6S7hN-L6pZiTnN2jHw1KbXH2f1Pg3egAcNp2lpKMKT9kvZ0IfRkyaK_GVj4N9JNV9cNekEohdQ0R9UHhn3Klnzr-RlIwvZQ/s1600/IMG_5734.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="325" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGNdq7u4UyMGRoH28Jsw2rtbT2VKgf5uze6c3tLf4lafpu6S7hN-L6pZiTnN2jHw1KbXH2f1Pg3egAcNp2lpKMKT9kvZ0IfRkyaK_GVj4N9JNV9cNekEohdQ0R9UHhn3Klnzr-RlIwvZQ/s400/IMG_5734.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We don't have a swimming pool (yet ~ it's on Mom's 'wish list' for the Rescue) but Cricket goes absolutely bonkers when Mom gets out the hose...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
I personally stay away from the festivities, preferring to chew on JD for fun.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
P.S. Is it just me or does anyone else think that Cricket is looking a little 'chubby'??? Look closely at that first picture...</div>

OK</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So it was actually on Sunday that Cricket did this. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I tend to run about a day behind on here. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Ya see, yesterday Cricket went and visited with a family that might want to ADOPT her!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I guess they have two LITTLE humans and Mom didn't know if Cricket would be comfortable around kids or not. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRPbkPXLsK7cjc-5GLg3W5vFy9yQPedsFIfOrtpUMEQid6EeTqd4MYzrTODUinvWirMptG_6r0UomQuh3Xk1h2ilqaCgh_YVDTnn_QavyaIQdJEGvhB3yyRe8PmOByXgWzBHrfAtfqnO0/s1600/IMG_5714-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="582" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRPbkPXLsK7cjc-5GLg3W5vFy9yQPedsFIfOrtpUMEQid6EeTqd4MYzrTODUinvWirMptG_6r0UomQuh3Xk1h2ilqaCgh_YVDTnn_QavyaIQdJEGvhB3yyRe8PmOByXgWzBHrfAtfqnO0/s640/IMG_5714-001.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I guess Cricket did pretty good because Mom said that she wasn't afraid of the kids or anything!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
They had a good time playing outside with BUBBLES!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9IM1B-NlZoOW8rFmt0ncep0yVriYa6I_nngBmkJO2m7npwsr2gWez27MdvO0UyTRn9HZBrV4RH8GJRckSmVQ1AutvCmA44Uhabmt_tmx-gIWVQIVXBj2gPXRH0Sc03eHH5l1XSQQP9yI/s1600/IMG_5703-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="516" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9IM1B-NlZoOW8rFmt0ncep0yVriYa6I_nngBmkJO2m7npwsr2gWez27MdvO0UyTRn9HZBrV4RH8GJRckSmVQ1AutvCmA44Uhabmt_tmx-gIWVQIVXBj2gPXRH0Sc03eHH5l1XSQQP9yI/s640/IMG_5703-001.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />Cricket and Savannah even played CHASE!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Look how Cricket's ears bounced straight up in the air when she was running! Mom says she looks like a GERMAN SHEPHERD with her ears up!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I guess Cricket WAS a little bit mischievous, in the house, cuz she kept wanting to pick up the kids balls (EVEN SOCCER BALLS!) in her mouth. Mom said she was real good about not picking them up if someone told her "No", but if they didn't SEE her pick it up, she wasn't about to let it go!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
That definitely counts as Mischief!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Way to go Cricket!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Cricket is looking up on the cupboard because that's where Savannah put the ball that she couldn't have. Look how nicely Savannah is untangling Cricket's leash. She must be a very nice little girl!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Mom says that she thinks Cricket and Savannah might grow to be very special friends...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I think that would be awesome for BOTH of them!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
P.S. If you'd like to see a <i><b>really cute</b></i> VIDEO of Savannah and her little brother, Zander, playing with bubbles with Cricket, check out my Mom's Blog over at <a href="http://shepherdsvoice.blogspot.com/" style="color: yellow;" target="_blank"><u><b>The Shepherd's Voice...</b></u></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Have a Happy Monday!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

This POOR dog!<br />
<img alt="Meet Clarke, the Star of the Ultimate Dog Tease" height="157" src="http://www.woofreport.com/images/stories/tips/_thumb1/clarke.jpg" width="200" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I think this is <i><u><b>ABUSE!</b></u></i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
His human should be prosecuted...</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="480" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/fOG2qj87RT0?rel=0" width="640"></iframe><br />
<br />
Mom says that this video has "gone viral" (what ever the heck THAT means!) and that everybody has probably already seen it, but she let me post it here to give <b>a different point of view.</b> Plus, she said that she CRACKS UP EVERY TIME SHE SEES IT! I don't think she quite gets it...<br />
<br />
If you want to know more about the story (I guess the dog actually has a pretty good life and his owner really does love him). Heck, he's even got his own Facebook page! Mom found this, this morning:<br />

Just who is that adorable dog that has skyrocketed to fame thanks to the
“Ultimate Dog Tease” video in which he’s tortured by the talk of bacon
(the maple kind) and such. It’s Clark. Clark Griswold is his full name
and he’s a 2-1/2 year old Dutch Shepherd mix (a rescue pup!) residing in
Colorado.
<br />
With 28 million (and counting) views of the video on YouTube, a recent
feature on Good Morning America and other news outlets, and other press,
what about this pup has enamored online video watchers – whether
they’re dog lovers or not? That’s easy – he’s adorable, his earnest
expression is as sweet as can be, he’ll make you smile, and it’s very
likely he ‘says’ just what dogs may if they could talk to us.
<br />
Visit <a href="http://www.facebook.com/ClarkGriswoldUltimateDogTease" target="_blank">Clark’s Faceboook page</a>
(of course he has one), where you’ll find photos of him, including a
sweet puppy pic, and can read comments from his adoring fans. And
you’ll also learn a little more about Clark, namely his ‘Personal
Interests’ include: steak, cheese, duck jerky, elk stew, and “whatever
my mom and dad will share with me!” That’s not all – he also loves to
play ball.
<br />
The “Ultimate Dog Tease” video was created by Andrew Grantham, who hails
from Halifax, Nova Scotia and matches voice-overs to people’s pet
videos as a hobby. That being said, Clark is not his dog, and according
to <a href="http://fftimes.com/node/242453" target="_blank">an interview</a>,
he belongs to a Colorado family who sent him the video. Needless to
say, Grantham and Clark have newfound and much deserved fame. Take a
look at the video if you haven't yet, and you'll certainly agree.

There are LOTS of exciting things happening at Bluff Country Canine Rescue but Mom wants me to share something exciting that <u>YOU</u> can even <b>join in!</b></i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>For example, next week is NATIONAL "Be Kind to Animals Week"!</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Mom is amazed that I figured out how to copy and past the following WHOLE ARTICLE about it from the<b> <a href="http://aspca.org/news/tips-for-celebrating-be-kind-to-animals-week" style="color: yellow;" target="_blank">ASPCA's</a></b> site. She thinks it's OK as long as we tell everyone that it came from the ASPCA site, and it is a VERY important event! It's your chance to help teach children the importance of being kind to animals. Mom says that if we practice "EACH ONE TEACH ONE", and every adult teaches even one child about the importance of treating animals with kindness and respect, it will help to make the world a better place for the next generation.</i></div>

Five Tips for Celebrating Be Kind to Animals Week</h1>

If you love animals—and we know you do—then chances are you care about sharing that value with the <a href="http://www.aspcakids.org/" target="_blank">kids in your life</a>.
May 6-12 is Be Kind to Animals Week, and it’s a great time to focus on
sharing your love of animals with kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews,
students and any other young ones in your life!<br />
(Psst: When your kids have done something great for animals, they can log their good deed as part of the <a href="http://www.sproutonline.com/kindnesscounts" target="_blank">Sprout Kindness Counts</a> campaign’s effort to reach one million acts of kindness.)<br />
With that in mind, here are five things you can do to celebrate animals this week:<br />
<b>1. Volunteer Together</b><br />
Sure, many shelters require volunteers to be 18 to handle animals—but
that doesn’t mean there’s nothing kids can do to help! Kids can hold a
bake sale for a local shelter, help with web design or do even
more—check out the stories of <a href="http://www.aspca.org/blog/11-year-old-artist-helps-animals">ASPCA Kids of the Year Olivia Boulet</a> and <a href="http://www.aspca.org/News/National/08-12-11-3">Mimi Ausland</a> for ideas. Call your <a href="http://www.aspca.org/Home/Adoption/shelters">favorite shelter</a> to ask what your kids can do.<br />
<b>2. Write a Letter to Congress</b><br />
If you’ve visited the <a href="http://www.aspca.org/Home/Fight-Animal-Cruelty/Advocacy-Center">ASPCA Advocacy Center</a>
lately, you know that animals across the country need our help! But did
you know that kids can help, too? Talk about the issues with your kids,
then write a letter together. Don’t forget to <a href="http://www.aspca.org/Home/ASPCAKids/Real-Issues/write-a-letter-to-congress">read our letter-writing tips</a> for kids.<br />
<b>3. Get Crafty</b><br />
If you’ve got a future artist on your hands, consider getting messy in
the craft room for shelter animals. What can you do? For starters, you
can make cat toys for homeless kitties in your area. <a href="http://www.aspcapro.org/how-to-make-a-catnip-toy-and-bake-dog-bi.php" target="_blank">Check out this page</a> for instructions. (Hint: You’ll need some old socks.) Or you can <a href="http://www.aspcapro.org/designing-adopt-me-bandanas-for-shelte.php" target="_blank">decorate bandanas</a> to help shelter pets get noticed!<br />
<b>4. Get ‘Em Involved in Pet Care</b><br />
Whether you decide your 12-year-old is ready for his own guinea pig or
you want your 14-year-old to feed the dog dinner each day, getting your
kids involved in caring for your pets will help them build a lasting
love for animals. Where to start? Check out our guide to <a href="http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/kids-and-pets/the-right-pet-for-your-childs-age.aspx">how much pet care kids can likely handle</a>. Then send them to ASPCAKids.org’s <a href="http://www.aspca.org/aspcakids/pet-care">Pet Care section</a>.<br />
<b>5. Foster a Shelter Animal</b><br />
Of course, this choice isn’t right for everyone; adding an animal, even
temporarily, is a big deal! But there’s no better way to show your kids
the beauty of the human-animal bond than saving a life together. If your
home has room for one more, Be Kind to Animals Week is a great time to <a href="http://www.aspca.org/Home/Adoption/shelters">foster a shelter</a> cat or dog who needs some extra attention.<br />
